Jim Corn, Rita Gouveia, and Erica White Receive 2011 Big South Women’s Tennis Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South Conference announced the recipients of this year's women's tennis postseason honors in an awards ceremony this evening on Winthrop University's campus, with three high honors going to members of the Gardner-Webb squad.

GWU head coach Jim Corn was voted Big South Co-Coach of the Year, along with Coastal Carolina's Jody Davis, by the League's head coaches, Rita Gouveia was named Big South Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year with Liberty's Jordan Jenkins, and Erica White was named to the All-Conference Singles team.

Corn earned his first-ever Coach of the Year plaudit as the Runnin' Bulldogs went from a 1-6 Conference record in 2010 to improve to a 3-4 League mark this season. The Runnin' Bulldogs posted an 11-6 overall record this season, which is the best winning percentage under Corn and since 2000. The Runnin' Bulldogs earned their highest seed since being in the Big South Conference with a No. 5 seed in this year's Championship.

Gouveia, a senior from Ponta Delgada, Portugal, boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.94 while majoring in Biology. In singles play, she posted an overall record of 11-4 and 4-2 in Big South play, mostly at the No. 6 position. In doubles action, she posted a record of 13-4 overall and 5-2 in Big South play, partnering either with sophomore Ronia Hutterli or senior Laura Kriett.

White had an overall singles record of 9-4 and 5-2 in Big South action, all at the No. 1 position. She posted Big South wins over Lexi Bolesky of Charleston Southern, Christina Limantoro of Presbyterian College, Britney Cloer of UNC Asheville, Hannah Fick of Liberty, and Petra Dajevic of Radford.
