Webb freshman Juanne Blount’s smashing debut garnered Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors from the league office, while veteran linebacker Jeffery Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week. Blount(Wingate, N.C. / Forest Hills HS) burst onto the scene with 134 yards rushing on 18 carries and a touchdown, pushing Gardner-Webb’s lead to 28-7 early in the fourth quarter. His first career carry went for 58 yards, and set up a first quarter score that gave the ‘Dogs a 14-0 lead. Blount also caught a pair of passes for 10 yards and established a new watermark for true freshman rushing yards during Gardner-Webb’s Division I era (since 2000).
