Big Brother in the 21st Century

Gardner-Webb University’s Theatre Program is pleased to invite you to the world premiere of Big Brother 2014 to be held nightly at 7:30p.m.from March 2 to March 6 in Dover Theatre. Based on George Orwell’s novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Big Brother 2014 is an original play by Scot Lahaie, Director of Theatre and Assistant Professor of Theatre Art which Lahaie calls a “political play for an apolitical generation and a call to action for every college student in the nation.” The story is one about the abuse of power in the American government following September 11, 2001. In the play, Big Brother seeks to track down and eliminate a rogue blogger, Spartacus, who resists the government’s takeover of the internet. In keeping with the theme of autonomy found in Big Brother 2014, particularly with regards to freedoms of speech and expression, Gardner-Webb Theatre is pleased to show a live video feed of the show each evening over the internet at http://gardner-webb.edu/spartacus.
