The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team had four student-athletes receive Big South All-Conference recognition announced by the League office on Thursday night, March 10th, as Dominique Hudson, Monique Hudson, Catrina Green and Brianna Dillard all received postseason honors. Senior point guard Dominique Hudson was named as a Big South First-Team All-Conference selection for the second straight season. Gardner-Webb, who is the No. 3 seed in this weekend's 2011 Advance Auto Parts Big South Women's Basketball Championship tournament, will take on the No. 6 seeded Asheville Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, March 11th, in the first round of the tournament at the Millis Center in High Point, N.C. Jonathan was one of four Runnin' Bulldogs crowned East Regional Champions, posting a first-place finish in the 184 weight class. The lone senior went 2-0 on the day, earning a 5-2 win over John Merickel of Campbell and a 3-1 decision over Aaron Kelley of Liberty to take first-place overall. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished in second-place overall with 74.5 points and Velazquez was named Most Outstanding Wrestling at the Regional event. The four East Regional Champions and NCAA National qualifiers is the most that the Runnin' Bulldogs have had in a single season since sending four back in 2006. The 2011 NCAA National Championships will be held Philadelphia, Pa. on March 17th-19th.
The sophomore thrower highlighted day one of the 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships for the Runnin' Bulldogs, setting a new school record and earning all-conference honors with a first-place finish in the shot put event with a mark of 13.41 meters (44'). The Queens, N.Y. native recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's weight throw event on Friday with a school record and personal best mark of 16.19 meters (53'1.50"). Gardner-Webb had 11 total all-conference performers at the two-day event in Clemson, S.C. The 5'11" hurler attended and lettered at Flushing High School and was the PSAC Indoor City and Borough Champion and state finalist as a senior and a sophomore.
Gardner-Webb had senior Carrie Long and redshirt-senior Christoph Hutschalik tabbed as the 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Women's and Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Years, as the Runnin' Bulldogs had 11 total all-conference performers at the two-day 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships in Clemson, S.C. In the team scores, Gardner-Webb women's team placed fifth overall with 52.50 points, while the men's team came in seventh with 49 points. Liberty's women's team took first-place with 179.50 points, while the Flames' men's team also took first-place with 198 points for the two-day event.
Gardner-Webb point guard Luke Davis was named to the Big South Conference All-Freshman squad Monday, as part of the league's postseason awards' announcement. Davis (Raleigh, N.C. / Ravenscroft School) finished third in the voting for league Freshman of the Year. He enjoyed a strong first season with the Runnin' Bulldogs, leading the Big South Conference's freshmen with 4.3 assists per game and providing several highlight-reel plays over the course of the season. His 132 assists set a new record for a Gardner-Webb freshman at the NCAA Division I level (since 2000-2001).

GWU had a number of individuals set personal best marks and qualify for the final heats on Friday in a handful of events, as the women's team totaled 16 points and sits in fifth-place overall in the team standings after five events, while the men's team picked up five points and finished day one in seventh-place after six events on Thursday.
For the third consecutive time, the Gardner-Webb women's swimming program has been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for having the best cumulative GPA for all NCAA Division I programs in the country for the Fall 2010 semester. The Runnin' Bulldogs had a cumulative GPA of 3.63 for the Fall 2010 semester, putting them atop the CSCAA Scholar All America Team list. Rounding out the top five were Northwestern (3.60), Washington (3.57), North Dakota (3.55), and Clemson (3.55). This marks the third consecutive semester, and fifth overall in the program's history that the Runnin' Bulldogs have earned the top ranking.
